And Just Like That...We Have a Dog. Sort Of.

Way back in 2009, Sunshine the Dog joined my Sis's family.

And oh, how my boyz love Sunshine the Dog.  (She's a Cavachon breed.)

Sunshine was content to live her days in Connecticut, barking at squirrels and chasing leaves in her big backyard.  And we were content to visit her, and for her to visit us.  It was the best of both worlds (for me).  The boyz could love and dote upon a dog, yet we didn't have the full responsibility of A Dog.

But then, just a few months ago, Sunshine the Dog (and my Niece and Sis) moved to Cambridge, MA.  A city.

Sunshine the Dog decided that she was NOT a city dog.

So Sunshine has spent some time with us in the Trenches while my Sis and Niece acclimated to their new jobs (Sis), new school (Niece), and new city life in general.

Sunshine the Dog has blended seamlessly with our family.  The boyz dote on her.  Eldest wakes up and immediately takes her out.  He feeds her.  He walks her.  She oftentimes sleeps on each of their beds.

All 3 of them loooooove her.

This weekend, it was time for Sunshine the Dog to go back home.  To her new home in the city of Cambridge.

Without the responsibility of the dog for that bit of time while we had her in the Trenches, my 14-year old Niece tearfully realized that owning a dog in the city is hard

So on Sunday, my Niece quietly and somberly and hesitantly asked Hubby and me if our family could keep her dog for her.*

Umm....remember this?

Well, I guess it's time for THIS:

Because we now have a dog in our Trenches.

*So, the thing is, we are keeping Sunshine on a "trial basis" until Thanksgiving.  My parents, who are retired, are also willing to keep her.  But again, the boyz loooooove her.

P.S.  And as for Hubby?  She sits on his lap in the recliner every night and watches sports with him.  (He won't admit it, but he loooooves her too.)

P.P.S.  And she sleeps in our bed.

P.P.P.S.  My Niece would like it noted for the record that SUNSHINE IS STILL HER DOG.  SHE IS LIVING WITH US, BUT SHE'S STILL HER DOG.  (said in a hormonal 14-year old girl voice)

P.P.P.P.S.  I'm kidding myself that it's just a "trial basis", huh?

P.P.P.P.P.S.  Hmmm...I'm suddenly hungry for some fava beans and a nice chianti.
