The New Fire Pit and the End of Summer

Earlier this summer, our backyard was transformed from this:

to this:

With fall just around the corner, and the onset of cooler evening nights, our brand new fire pit has become a relaxing spot to welcome the day's end.

Last night was our final hurrah.  The last night of summer.  The last night before school supplies are packed in brand new backpacks.  The last night before mandatory bedtimes and early wake-ups.  The last night where showers aren't a daily occurrence because a pool swim counts as cleansing, right?

We did it up, HERSHEY'S CAMP BONDFIRE style, with Gramma and Poppa and some family friends:

Adults and children alike, gathered in a lawn chair circle, feet resting upon the pit's edge.  With the fire crackling and the marshmallows roasting, we toasted to the Summer of 2012 and wistfully mourned its swift passing.  And plates of Hershey's S'mores were shared by all.

Goodbye summer.  We'll miss you so.
