An Unconventional Easter

We normally spend every Easter with my family in town.

Coloring Easter eggs.

Filling Easter baskets for the boyz.

Doing an Easter egg hunt.

Eating Easter ham.

Except this year is different.

My Sis has to work.  My Dad is recovering from knee surgery and can't travel.  My brother Dan is stationed in Colorado.  My other brother Mike can't come.

I'm sad about this.

It's just not an Easter weekend without my loud and crazy family members.

(This Easter Sunday also happens to fall on our 12th wedding anniversary.)

So I told Hubby that I didn't want to host or be hosted by my in-laws anyone else.

I'm being a brat about it, I fully admit.

But Hubby was surprisingly understanding.

And so?  Our Easter/anniversary this year will NOT be spent at home in our Trenches.

Instead it will be wet.  It will be loud.  It will be FUN, dammit.

We are surprising the boyz.

I kinda can't wait.

What are your Easter traditions?

We took the kids there last year and they loved it! Have fun!

We don't have any hard and fast traditions. This year we are going camping. I can't wait.

Sounds like a great plan and I know how you feel. With my Dad off and on overseas, brothers with their own families (and inlaws that they have to please) and even my grandmother doing the snow bird thing, Easter has really changed for us over the past few years. This year we are having Easter Brunch which is a new thing for us. Not sure if we will ever get back into a consistent traditional Easter (Christmas, etc) but maybe that is our new consistency! :) Have a blast and Happy Anniversary!

Sounds like fun! My husband has to work Easter, so it will be me and the girls and the in-laws (hey, can't pass up a free meal).

I'm in the process of booking CoCo Keys for 14 girls (plus possible siblings). Call me crazy! But also - it will be fun!

Since we have moved we haven't done anything big for Easter. One holiday(Thanksgiving) with the in-laws is enough for me - thank you very much.

We usually do a little egg hunt with the kids and then go out for a nice dinner/lunch around 2:30. It works and it is relaxing.

I love your CoCo Keys idea - I might have to steal that for next year.

LOVE it! Sometimes when life gets in the way of traditions you just have to make new ones! Enjoy!

Hurray! What a great way to celebrate out of the box! I bet your boyz are loveing this idea, I know my kiddos would (when they get old enough to swim, that is). I think that it is a great way to make a sad situation fun, instead of staying home thinking about what you can't have. Good job choosing happiness!

Stopping from SITS!

What a fun idea! This is my family's first Easter away from our traditions in St. Louis, and I'm not really sure how to make it special for the kids. Once the Easter Bunny comes and we go to church, well, I guess that will pretty much be it. Sigh. Great idea...might have to plan something like that next year!
