Does My Kindergartener Need Anger Management?!

Baby came home the other day with some pretty typical kindergarten artwork.

A painting.

It seemed innocuous.  See?

Some sort of person.  A sun.  Blue sky.

But also attached to the painting was this *story*:

"On red and black days I feel mad like a werewolf that doesn't sleep."

Huh?

I questioned Baby.  "Bud, what does this say?"

He read it to me.

"But what does that mean?" I asked.

Blank stare.

So I continued my questioning.  "Does it mean when you wear red and black?"  "Wait, how do you even know what a werewolf is?"  (His reponse:  A furry man. Duh, Mom.)

[Basically:  WHAT THE HELL ARE RED AND BLACK DAYS??  AND SHOULD I BE BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT FOR ANGER MANAGEMENT FOR MY KINDERGARTENER??]

The kid loooooves the Arizona Cardinals Codinals (how he pronounces it) so he does wear a lot of red and black clothing.

I'm kinda amused. But puzzled as well.

Jeez, I guess I'll have my little werewolf take a break from wearing all his Cardinals Codinals football gear. Lest he become mad.  And sleepless.

I think what's more frightening is that man stuffed in to his B-Ball uniform behind the werewolf. That image is gonna haunt me.

Both of my boys are in to blood, gore, destruction. And for the life of me I can't figure out where it came from... See you in therapy!

This reminds me of that book 'My Many Colored Days' - maybe they're reading it in school? It sounds very similar to what he wrote...

He's fine...my boys are all about drawing war scenes and pirate battles. Ugh.

Yes, I was going to ask if we has ready My Many Colored Days---that is almost exactly how they describe moods.

And my 6yo says his favorite word is "blood". I'm hiding all the sharp pointy things now.

As a former teacher, I say definitely, DEFINITELY it was a project they did after reading a book. Probably Many Colored Days as others suggested. Worry not, Mama!

LOL! Maybe that is a good idea.

We worry about their little psyches only to later discover they saw it on a cartoon.

When I compliment Gremlin's artwork, he tells me "Mom! They forced me to do it!"

The first month of school my kindergartner brought pictures home and a sculpture of 'blood monster'. He attends Catholic school...

the things my 3 year old draws (and explains) horrifies me. I'm gonna have to watch him.

Welcome to the world of raising boys! Expressing their passions is a blood, guts and scary monster kind of thing!

LOL! Boys are a blast. My kindergartner had to draw an animal head on his body and he chose a killer whale...
