How do you take time for yourself every day? Wait, DO you take time for yourself every day? Please tell me you do. I mean, don't you know, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."???
Trust me, I am a huDge carrier of Mommy Guilt. I have three children. But there's only one me. And never enough of me to go around. I constantly feel like someone is being shortchanged. And on top of that? I work full-time. So forget about the milk and cookies waiting for my boyz as they tumble off the school bus and into my apron-clad arms. Not happenin'.
But. I am also a huDge proponent of Alone Time. I NEED it. And so, I have figured out, that my Alone Time can't cut into my Mommy Time or else it brings on the Mommy Guilt.
And so, the way I take time for myself every day is to wake up at the ass crack o'dawn for my Alone Time. While everyone else in my Trenches is still sound asleep.
Thus, my alarm clock is set for 4:40 a.m. On Mondays and Fridays, I meet with my personal trainer at 5am for an hour. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I run outdoors with a friend.
I never in a million years thought that exercise would be what makes me happy. But somehow, some way, it truly does.
By the time I'm done with my workout, my Trenches are still quiet. I have time to cool down, think about the day ahead, and focus on how good I feel once the workout is OVER.
And I'm totally ready to face my day. As a Mom. As a Wife. As a Paralegal.
(Gratuitous pic from my 5k run on Sunday - my finish time was 28:23)
