What I'm Loving: Early Summer 2010 Edition

My hair is naturally curly/frizzy.  I usually blow dry it straight and then flat iron it on the mornings I have time.  If I'm short on time, I simply wash it and go and it dries wicked curly and frizzy and I may possibly look like I've escaped from the loony bin.  And then once the New England humidity hits, I usually just throw up my hands in surrender and wear a ponytail.  Real professional-like, I know.  But now?  I've discovered THIS magic:
Where have you been all my life, oh magic hair elixir?  If you don't have some - go get some!  This is actually the cheaper version of moroccan oil that my friend recommended, and now my hair has never been LESS frizzy and more soft and shiny and manageable.  Pinky swear.

My old standby has always been Vasoline Intensive Care aloe lotion.  But this season, I discovered this (and love it):
Every morning, I have been eating greek yogurt.  It is chock full of protein and is wayyyy more filling than regular yogurt.
I got this Old Navy dress in two colors.  I can dress it up for work with jewelry and heels, and then schlep around in it on weekends with a pair of flip-flops!
I just recently saw The Proposal and was pleasantly surprised.  I laughed, I cried...

So my Sis and I started a new running blog together!  Now that we don't live near each other, I love being able to have this line of communication with her.  We both signed up for the Charles River Run in late June - it's a 7.5 miler.  Ack.

But do you know what's missing from this list?

A frigging GOOD BOOK.  I have NOT read anything worthwhile since I read The Help (*sigh* I didn't want to turn the last page - I wanted the story to keep going!)

Will you please leave a book suggestion for me in the comments?!  And share what YOU are loving so far this season!

My hair has this weird wave thing going on and it's frizzy too. I have to flat iron it or wear it in a pony tail. SUCKS. I'll be looking into that stuff!!

P.S. That yogurt...I haven't tried it. I've heard it's slightly watery? is that true?? I love yogurt and want to try it but I don't know if I can handle watery yogurt. haha!

I love that yogurt too. I think it is thicker than all the other yogurts. I put lots of granola with sunflower seeds in it.

I ordered two beach reads from Amazon and have not yet read either: Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin (takes place in Boston) and her 1st book: "Something Borrowed" is being filmed in New York right now with Kate Hudson)...and The Help.

Books I love:

"Sister Of My Heart"-Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

"The Memory Keepers Daughter"-Kim Edwards

I didn't want either of the above two books to end. "Sister Of My Heart" has a sequel, "The Vine of Desire". It's also good, but not like the first.

"Digging to America"-Anne Tyler

Anything written by Carol Goodman.
Anything written by Mary Kay Andrews, especially if you like southern books. Sophie Kinsella books-not the Shopoholic series, but her other books.

I also have enjoyed most of the Jodi Picoult books I've read, but my favorite is "House Rules".

Read Chealsea lately (sp) either of her 2 books are super fab. 4 stars. I just finished "dancing naked at the edge of dawn". Loved her prose. 3 stars. Have you read the time traveler? 4 stars. Check out good reads, I have some favorites listed there.

I'm going to have to try that body butter and the dress is sooo cute!

Yay for running blogs. I will go check out and follow right now. I am really enjoying mine. I seem to be able to write about that topic more than my usual blog.

Read Pillars Of The Earth or The Secret History or Don't Stop The Carnival. All great books in my opinion.

Love love love Chobani!!! Can you use that hair stuff when it's curly? I'm reading the Gargoyle right now, but I loved Chelsea Handler's most recent.

Check out this post (and comments) for good ideas:

My Sister's Keeper was the best book I've read in a LONG time. I just read Making Toast, short but very good. Emily Griffin's first four books were great. Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof, and Love the One You're With. I can't wait to read the new one.

I love Myrtle Beach too. We always went there when I was a kid. About five years ago I took all my kids there but we live in Utah so it's a bit of a trek! Have fun

OH! I just discovered Morrocon oil, too.

WOw...It lasts forever, smells divine, and makes my hair silky and shiny but never oily.

Love this stuff. Worth every cent.

I loved The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton. Great book! Easy read, but definitely kept my interest. I'll have to look for The Help. I've been looking for a good summer read too.

I just started Every Last One: A Novel by Anna Quindlen. So far it is really good. A little freaky because as a mom sometimes she is writing what you are actually thinking in your head.

Wait a minute .... you have humidity in New England??

If you came to Kentucky, I'm sorry to tell you that your hair just might become a 'fro. We are hot, sticky messes all summer!

Good luck with your run!

I'll have to check out that dress. Thanks for the suggestion. As for books. I read a lot and two of my favorite books last year I actually wrote about on my blog because I loved them so much and I want readers to read them. THE BEST book I've read in years was The Gargoyle.

The other was Loving Frank

(sorry, don't know how to do the html tags!)

Have fun reading. BTW, Coffee & Commutes just finished The Gargoyle and LOVED IT.
