A Beginner's Guide to Running - Excuses

I dedicate this post to my Hubby who scoffed teased so kindly suggested I write about this topic.

You see, he has lost about 20 pounds.  And just this week, has started waking at 5 a.m. to do a morning workout, since we are overwhelmed with baseball and more baseball in the evenings.  Just who is this man and where is my mayo with extra-cheese lovin' Hubby? 

Naturally, you'd think some of his peer pressure and cajoling hard work and dedication would rub off on me, right?


(Just take a look at my May mileage.  Ooof.)

Seriously, you guys, I am the f'ing QUEEN of Excuses.  (Now where's my tiara?)

"It's too hot."

"It's too cold."

"It's too windy."

"Jeez, it TOTALLY looks like it's gonna rain..."

"It's getting too dark out."

"I'm too hungry."

"I'm too full."

"My belly hurts."

"I'm too tired."

"I have too much other stuff to do."

"I don't have enough time."

"Nah, I can't right now.  Maybe later..."

Right now? My back hurts. Typically? I'm already home and don't feel like leaving the house. The class is probably already full. My allergies are horrible. The kids need me here. The kids are sick (this one isn't an excuse as much as the truth about why I can't bring them to the gym...when I typically just want an hour to myself)! The kids got up too late and I missed my class. This hair has to last until tomorrow night...I can't risk pulling it back and creating a divot...lame!

We all do it...I try to put myself in a personal trainer's position and think about how BS-y it all sounds...and it is usually lame enough to get me butt in the car and to the gym.

typically? the excuse is that I'M SO TIRED. (Is it still an excuse if its true?!?!)

This morning, my excuse was a racking cough that kept me awake until 1am. But then, that turned into the excuse to get out of bed & head out for a run, because I was waking up people with the stupid cough again.

So there's a win.

Right now. I'm too sore from my Tuesday work out. I cring getting up, sitting down, walking, on the stairs, basically everywhere. I can't imagine running like that & then being gone on vacation for 3 days and at a seminar for work for 2!

LoL! That's my best excuse! No way does anyone ever question that one. hahaha!

What's funny is that I use the same excuses for not doing stuff - no matter what the topic is. What?! I'm recycling! My excuses are universally relevant :D

Hey! just noticed your ticker...get busy! You're falling behind your good performance in April. No excuses!! May is even a longer month than April. Quit your sniveling and get those shoes on and get that little tushy out the door!

visiting from SITS :) i just blogged today about my issues with running. and i've busted out with the very same excuses on more days than i'd like to admit to.

my current excuse is that my running shoes are worn out and until i can get to the store and get some new ones, it's in the best interest of the health of my spine an knees that i not run.

fortunately my kids shame me into going most days..... nothing like getting bested by a 2 and 4 year old!

My bigggest excuses for not exercising period are typically the kids, my back is KILLING me, or I just plain hurt. It is frustrating to me that in order to get thin and stop hurting, I need to exercise. However, I hurt too much to exercise, so then what do I do? Ugh! Vicious cycle!

My excuses are I hate to exercise. That is all. I don't like to do it so I don't do it.

LOL! I am right there with you....all of the sudden my husband is Mr fitness(45 pounds lighter and a ton of muscle definition...)I used to have to beg him to do this with me because I couldn't do it alone! Now hes on my back! But it does work if you have someone to do it with so...if you ever want to go for a walk some evening...just let me know ;)
We can kick each others butt! ;)

My excuse, which I ALWAYS have and ALWAYS use, is I don't FEEL LIKE IT.

I usually go with the simple, but effective 'I don't feel like it'.

I think the key is finding something that you like so it doesn't FEEL like exercise.

You can do it...keep running, even when it's too hot or too cold !

My excuse lately is that my 8 month old is teething and gets me up every 1-2 hours at night to nurse himself back to sleep. It's been TORTUROUS!!! And it's not only the lack of sleep, but the lack of exercise that's making me feel so run down. I'll be so glad when this stage is over!

Time! When would I do it?? That's my big excuse and it's got the weight of truth to it. (Get it? "Weight" of truth? HA!)

ANYWAY. I thought you were going to give us pointers for busting through our excuses. So -- got any?
