Just Checking In

Sooo...my first day of work NOT IN BOSTON and guess where I ended up last night?

Ironically enough...in Boston.

At the fabulous Aiming Low party!

I waivered about going.  All day long.  And during my (much shorter!) drive home from work.

But I had a ride (Mrs. Chicky!) because there was no way in hell I was going alone; I knew Ms. Ali Martell would be there; and I figured, well, that I should JUST GO.  Step outside my comfort zone a little bit.  Be social.  Network.  Schmooze.

And it was worth it.  (The pomegranate martinis helped.) I loved seeing Christina again (it had been wayyyy too long!), and as an added bonus I also got to meet Suburb Sierra and Draft Queen in person.

Oh, and the new job?

So far, so good.  I just have to keep reminding myself about that pesky learning curve.  And figure out how to NOT GET LOST.

Tally for my first day of work:

Finding a bathroom = FAIL.
Leaving my office and finding my way back = FAIL.
Finding the cafeteria = FAIL.
Finding my way to my car = MAJOR FAIL.
*sigh*

But still despite the FAILS...short commute! Yay for that, right?

It will get easier! The shorter drive makes it way better!

Reminds me of my first day of work at my last job. I had to punch a code into a keypad to get to the hallway with the bathroom. After a few failed attempts at remembering, I had to write the code on my hand. Good times.

It was great meeting you last night!

Today make it your goal, find the bathroom and find food. All else can wait. ;)

I lived in Worcester for 3 years. I am now convinced that MA has the worst layout for streets on the planet. :) Those round abouts gave me panic attacks for the first 2 years. :)

Did you find the toilet, and cafeteria today? :)

I'm so glad other people have trouble navigating new places! I'm hopeless with directions and that sort of thing makes finding a different job terrifying for me!

Did you have to do the potty dance? Whomever led you to the bathroom will never forget the crazy lady doing the potty dance.

While clicking your heals together, just keep saying, "A shorter commute, a shorter commute, a shorter commute."

It took me 6 months to find my way around the hospital where I work. I'd hate to change jobs just for fear of getting lost all over again!

So great to meet you, too! Loved our potty chat by the food - classy chicks we are :)

Hopefully you'll own your new building soon and will be sending the freshman the wrong way down the hall.

Congrats, again.

Hang in there, YOU CAN DO IT!

I have worked in the same hospital for 23 years and all I know is the bathroom and the cafeteria...

Don't tally until Friday - first day stuff doesn't count.

It was awesome to meet you too!

As for getting lost all over the place? I remember that all too well. I've been at my current job for a year (today!) and I had to ask "directions" to an IT guy's desk. My supervisor said "go by the second door to the kitchen..."

and I said "wait. there are 2 doors to the kitchen? Where is this second door?"

I thought for sure he was screwing with me.
