My (only) Sis recently moved away to another state.
"A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves - a special kind of double." ~Toni Morrison
"Sisters are probably the most competitive relationship within the family, but once the sisters are grown, it becomes the strongest relationship." ~Margaret Mead
She and her little family are gone from MA and are not coming back.
Condensed version: My Sis first moved to MA in 2003 with my Niece, right before my Niece started kindergarten. We finished our basement and they lived with us for a year, throughout my entire pregnancy with Middle. Then she bought a condo in town. Then she met her Hubby. (Their first date was actually the day I delivered Baby in 2005!) Then they bought a house a town over from us. They sold that house earlier this year.
Anyway, I saw their new house, in a new state, for the first time this weekend. It's a little bit less than 2 hours away with 2 different sets of outlets in between where I will DEFINITELY be shopping in my travels.
And it's perfectly lovely. Picturesque New England quaint. And my Sis is happy. And her nursing job is promising.
I couldn't be any prouder as her Big Sister. I don't tell her that, and I should. She's courageous. Determined. A hard worker. And without a doubt, aside from my husband, the person who knows me best in this world.
"A sister shares childhood memories and grown-up dreams." ~Author Unknown
And my Niece? The artist, the free-spirit, the growingupwaytoofast pre-teen?
Circa 2003 with Eldest
Circa 2005 with Middle
Well, she's absolutely THRIVING in her new house, her new middle school, her new town, her NEW LIFE.
This move, for them, was, without a doubt, the right decision.

But I all of us here in the Trenches sure do miss them.
Sis and I agree that this is definitely our all-time favorite pic of our children together.

Ah, love to your sis! Sweet post, love the pic of the kiddos.
Awww, the relationship between sisters (and cousins) is so fun!
How exciting for your sister and niece, though it sure sounds like you and your family will miss them. :(
Sisters DO have the strongest relationships once they have grown up. So happy you are so close, and sorry she moved, but obviously you two have a bond stronger than any distance!!!
Sweet post.

Beautiful post and beautiful niece!
I love it when we can use the wonders of the Internetz to express our love, pride, thankfulness, etc. etc.
Sniff. Sniff. That was beautiful.
I could totally relate to this post. I have an awesome little sister who lives far away. We're both happy where we are, but miss each other. The kids are adorable... Visiting from SITS. Hope you have a great day!
