Letter to My Hair Guy

Dude,

We had a good thing going, you and I. I even raved about you (and your cheap prices) many a time.

But when I walked in last Wednesday and asked for some long layers, I'm not quite sure where your head was at. You gave me A LAYER. One stinkin' blunt short layer, and then left the rest of my hair long.

[People, think MULLET. ON MY HEAD.]

So when I realized that it looked like shit I wasn't going to be able to do anything with it, I gathered my nerve and came back to you earlier this week. (Something I have NEVER done before, by the way. But I feel like you and I have developed enough of a working relationship that I was wasn't overstepping my bounds in doing so.)

You were sufficiently apologetic and understood that it just was a terrible cut wasn't working. So again, you got busy. Edward Scissorhands busy. Chopping, chopping, chopping. But just THAT LAYER. Making it even shorter. So I suggested perhaps I get some length cut off to compensate.

[I LIKED my long hair. He left me no choice but to SACRIFICE my locks.]

I walked out of your salon somewhat resigned.

Resigned to BAD HAIR, that is...

[Think Adam Sandler's girlfriend, Linda, in The Wedding Singer - unfortunately, I couldn't find a pic of her.]

Look, I like you, I really do. You do GREAT COLOR. And your prices, for Boston, are extremely reasonable.

But consider this our breakup.

It's not me, it's YOU.

Unhappily rockin' the 80's short-long,
Sarah

(I will be wandering aimlessly around Boston today, hoping to find a random salon that will FIX my hair. Maybe I'll post before-and-after pics, just for shits and giggles.)

*Update - So here ya go:

Before: Scraggly and mushroom-y (It actually photographs much better in this pic than it actually was. Trust me.)

After: Much more coiffed, don't you think? (I was advised to treat that rogue top layer as "long bangs.")

Oh dude...sad stuff! So sorry to hear that. I broke it off with my guy, but only because I got in an altercation with his sister and I was afraid he would seek revenge for her on my hair.

Good luck and we oh so want pictures!

I didn't think it looked bad in the first pic, but I LOVE the second style. It looks blended and more updated and now you're happy and smiling and probably found yourself a new stylist, huh?

You poor thing! Bad haircuts are the worse!

Thanks for stopping by on my SITS day! It was so sweet of you!

There's something in the water - literally - as I had my hair cut today because the last cut she did was horrific. Short layers on top of a curly mop does nothing but make the curly mop reach new heights, and not good ones.

Loving your professional blowdry though! I can NEVER accomplish that at home.

Loving the 'after'! Hope you're happy with it and (my biggest problem) are able to duplicate it at home.

I do like the second photo. But you look better than most in the first. (No offense to all the other beautiful people out there. Peace out.)

So much better. Since I moved to NJ, I have such a hard time finding a good stylist. How did you find your new stylist?

Love Love the second look!

Love the 2nd photo. Who cuts just one layer when you ask for "long layers"??---there should be plural there, especially with hair as long as yours!

I like the 2nd cut a lot, but you're right about that first one. Did you ever get a refund or anything for that? At least tell me you didn't tip!

My hair hasn't been cut in ages because I just don't know who to go to anymore. I can't seem to find anyone worth a damn.

I don't think the first looked to bad. But I definitely like the second better! Great cut!

Sorry you had to break up with your stylist. That's always a bummer. Your hair looks great now!

The after shot is fabulous! I hate it when hair stylists don't hit the mark, and you even gave him another shot. So frustrating.

It definitely looks good in the bottom pic! I hate a bad hair cut, it just ruins everything.
