Cock Sacky

Hold on a minute...

(I'm perusing my archives to see when the last time someone was sick in the Trenches.)

(You know and I know I won't have to go back very far.)

Ahh, on May 19, Baby threw up.

And on May 11, Middle had Fifths Disease.

So wow - it had been over a month. Must be a record for us.

Remember how I mentioned yesterday that Middle had been running a fever but had no other symptoms? And I ASSumed it was a virus?

Hahahahahahahahaha. Silly me.

By last night his temperature was up to 103. And he was complaining of a bad headache. And he could barely walk.

Of course it hit me then. SWINE FLU. (Go big or stay home, right?)

I dosed him with Motrin at 7pm and called the pediatrician.

Who referred me to Kid's Care with an 8:15pm appointment.

So off we scurried, Middle and I.

He was extremely lethargic and BURNING UP. He fell asleep in the car.

I had to carry him through the hospital's ER entrance to the Kid's Care office. Someone gave me the wrong directions. (OF COURSE they did. While I was carrying 5yr old DEAD WEIGHT.)

Upon arrival, the nurse checked his vitals. At 8pm, a full hour after the Motrin, his temp was still 103. I was totally worried.

In came the doctor. He seemed concerned that it could possibly be meningitis. Gah.

But upon checking Middle's mouth, and discovering the sores, it was apparent.

Frickin Cock Sacky (the pronunciation I prefer, thankyouverymuch) strikes our Trenches again. And again. (It's usually Eldest who contracts it though.)

But never fear! I'm quite sure no boy will be left out of the "fun". After all, Eldest did put the thermometer in his mouth RIGHT after Middle had used it yesterday. And Baby continues to slyly sneak sips of Middle's ginger ale from the SAME straw.

It's transmitted through saliva, don't you know.

*hangs head in abject futility*

Oh JOY! The boys got this a couple of times each last year. It is SO annoying! They had the sores in their mouths and the Doc's referred to it as herpengina (yeah, that is a fun one to repeat, let me tell you). My husband and I just prayed that no one would ask. YUCK!

I hope it passes soon and by passes I do not mean from one to another. Good luck!

Oh, the first DAY I started babysitting this little boy he came down with that. He was 7 months old, burning up, and crying non stop the ENTIRE DAY. His parents were very nonchalant, and wanted to wait until the normal time to pick him up. Lovely. I also have an 18 month old at the same time. After he was diagnosed the mother made sure to point out it's passed through feces so to make sure I was washing my hands. Thanks because it's not as if I don't wash my hands about 50 times a day with two kids to watch. It was an enjoyable relationship for the next year, let me tell you....

Hope the other two stay healthy!

Oh nooooo! Hope they are feeling better soon. Everyone has been getting sick on top of sick over here too. I don't think I've ever lysoled a doorknob in my life before, but I did it on Friday because I was so sick of everyone staying sick.

My kids had that one summer a few years ago and it sucked. They were miserable, I was miserable, but we made it through alive. Barely.

OH NO! poor babies. I so hate when you have to make a visit to the ER. HOpe Middle feels better soon and the other children don't get it.

AAHHH! We have had this one many times. I remember filling up a medicine drop with milk to give my older son some food because his mouth was so full of sores he could not eat. Not fun. Hope it leaves your family soon.

Get it over with all three fast, fast, fast. They're only thinking of you.
