What Do You Wear?

Can I ask you a personal question?

What do you wear to bed?

You see, I have YET to find the perfect pair of pjs. I'm not quite convinced they even exist.

In the mid-to-late 90's, there was a cream-colored flowered cotton long-sleeved set at Victoria's Secret that was my favorite. (Victoria, the snob, called them "pyjamas".) I owned two pairs of those suckers.

While pregnant, I lived in Hubby's oversized tee shirts and boxer shorts.

Post-pregnancy, it was all-drawstring, all the time.

But lately (*cough* meaning 4 years postpartum), I've been in a jammy rut. Nothing strikes me. Nothing looks comfy. Nothing is cheap enough for me to fork over the money because hello? That could be a new purse/shoes/jewelry instead.

And I don't even know where to begin to shop.

Victoria's Secret? Too expensive and trendy. I don't want words ON MY ASS, thankyouverymuch.

TJMaxx/Marshalls - is fine, but it's hit or miss. And whenever I find something there, my attention gets diverted by something else pretty or shiny that I'd rather spend my money on.

Lands End/LLBean - Too old ladyish.

I'm not a fan of nightgowns - they ride up. I hate silk - too slippery. I don't like rough, scratchy cotton. I get too cold in tank tops.

(Picky? Who me?)

So I sexily slink into bed every night in my gray Champion tee shirt, and a pair of oversize drawstring pajama pants.

The definition of HOT, I know.

So tell me, am I alone here? Are you all donning the thongs and slinky chemises every night?

I like target. They have a brand called Gillian & O'Malley. They make cute pants, tops, tanks & nighties. I do pants and tops. They are in cute SUPER soft fabrics. Comfy slightly sexy but okay to wear around the kids. Hubby likes how they feel too. And reasonably priced. Maybe about 20-25 for the set.

I'm with you most of the time, but of the pj sets I do have they are all from Old Navy...cute drawstring pants or shorts with matching tops. Cute, comfy and cheap!

I think that I am with you in that when I go to TJ Maxx, Target, etc. I would like to have some sleepwear, but I would much rather spend the money on something else. I am the same way with bras and other things that no one sees (luckily I don't need a big, purposeful bra). I wear a soft t-shirt and underwear. And sometimes socks. In the a.m. when I get the boys' lunches made I pull on my flannel sleep pants and a robe. In the winter I will wear those bottoms with a long sleeved comfy t-shirt. I am going to ask my husband if he has had thoughts on my sleep attire--actually who cares--he wears a shirt but free-hangs everything else so at least I am more equipped to deal with a middle of night emergency.

Ha.. thongs & slinky chemises... that's me! NOT!

I buy the packages of men's Fruit of the Loom white t-shirts. I pair them with a pair of PJ/lounge pants I get at Walmart, lol.

Sexy, huh!??

nothing is better than the old college sweats.

I'm all about going nudey. I just can't stand to have pajamas twist around me all night. In the winter I add a pair of socks for added sexiness ;)

nice comfy sweat pants and a big cozy sweatshirt...i am sure my husband loves seeing me in this very UNromantic UNsexy outfit night after night

Nope, I'm in the same boat with you. I wear old t-shirts and undies. (Usually granny-type panties, because they are the most comfortable at night.) No wonder my husband can't keep his hands off me! HAHA

I sleep au natural. I keep a robe near the bed for whenI have to get up to tend to the kids. I also wear the robe in the morning before getting dressed for the day. At night I will put on comfy boy-shorts undies and an ex-long tank under the robe so as not to accidentally flash my unsuspecting children.

I have some of that pretty type stuff... but you can't SLEEP in it. It gets all twisted and tight and uncomfortable.
So, I go with the standard hubby's old tshirt and a pair of (men's) plaid pj pants or yoga pants.
In the winter, I'm sure to add fuzzy socks and a fleece sweatshirt, and in the summer I substitute hubby's boxers for the pj pants.

Oh PULEASE!! No sexiness here. I wear drawstring, flannel pj bottoms and a short sleeved t-top. They are so old and beat up....if you find comfy ones, let me know, would ya?

no sexy jammies for me! I am either in a big T shirt or when its warmer a wife beater.... I may or may not add a pair of shorts. BORING!

I wear an old t-shirt and my hubby's boxers to bed. Sexy. Sometimes I switch it up and wear a tank top with a built-in bra instead of the t-shirt. Boring, I know, but I'm like you....don't like gowns cause they ride and silk is way too slippery, and everthing else I could wear but why? when I can wear cheap comfy stuff I already have?

You are so not alone...my husband says I wear a whole load of laundry to bed!
I have great success at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, but my favorite is Old Navy...cute, comfy and CHEAP!

just went back and read all the comments...apparently "A Bun's Life" and I think alike!

No sexiness here...I have two children, and that's plenty for me right now. I love cotton pj bottoms/capris and a t-shirt or "wife beater" in the summer to keep cool. I don't like nightgowns b/c they ride up. I just want to be comfortable, but I would also like to be cute. ;) Target and Old Navy sometimes have cute bottoms....

Looks like we have yet another similarity. I am a cotton t-shirt and shorts or cotton capris to bed type of girl. I like Old Navy's pj line and it must be cotton with some type of sleeve. I can't do tanks either.

I have a drawer or two or three full of sexy nighties and under things. But, honestly, who has the time or the energy at the end of the day? Not me....so, usually it is just just what ever T-shirt I can find off the floor, that passes the smell clean test, a nice comfy pair of boy shorts.

i like target too - but i do have one pare of pj pants that I got from lands end about 6 or 7 (GASP) years ago that I love love love, no ride up, not too tight, comfy. My fav is to wear those with a target tissue t pj top!

I'm with you all the way on the t-shirt and drawstring pajamma pants - But don't take advice from me......I am only 22 months post partom!

Cotton t-shirt and workout pants- a little trick to motivate myself to get to the gym every morning. Getting dressed was half the battle...

Of course, I don't belong to a gym anymore, but I still like to pretend I do.

Since you asked, I sleep nekkid. I hate the way clothes bunch up and twist around and just generally annoy me when I'm trying to sleep. I run around the house wearing a too big pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt.

Dr. Liz said...

I confess, I usually just sleep in socks. Occasionally there is a tank top or t-shirt involved, but I hate getting bunched up in things as I toss and turn all night. I've usually got a pair of shorts and a t-shirt somewhere on the floor for when the dogs need to go out at 3am.

I find the best thing to wear is my birthday suit. It's always comfy and it fits!

When I do wear them I have my favorite pair from www.runawayrabbit.com called In Your Dreams Jammies. My grandmother, mother and daughter also have a pair. We would be really cute if we had a slumber party.

I am a huge fan of PJs. I actually put them on in the early evening. tank and lounge pants are my favorite.

I wear well worn-in all cotton drawstrings (flannel or regular depending on season) with a collection of impossibly soft t-shirts (read: at least 20 years old, so there's no real fabric left - it's like wearing air), which thoughtfully evoke different times. If one of those thoughtful evocations happens to run toward the gee-you'd-be-sexy-if-not-for-those-miserable-pjs, I take the offending garments off.

I like cute PJs for lounging. Although this winter I have lived in draw string PJ pants from Old Navy. I get really hot when I sleep though so I usually just do a t-shirt. Hubby and I pretty much sleep in swing shifts though so it doesn't matter to him what I wear to bed. PJs make the best gifts.

WAY too cold in NH for sexy little jammies.

I usually wear flannel pj bottoms and a t-shirt. Just this year, I went out and bought a few little chemise thingies for our trip to Aruba sans kids. Every now and then if the kids are on a sleepover at Grammies, I will pull one out to wear.

Elaine said...

Hell no. I do not have time to worry about sexy sleepwear! I like sweats and tee-shirts. In the summer I like boxer shorts.

The only time I wear cute jammies is on Christmas, since I'll be wearing them all day and there will be pictures involved!

This comment will not be anything new, because I too wear drawstring pj pants or hubby's boxers with a cotton t-shirt or tank top to bed. Every night. When I'm feeling a little frisky, I might make it all black. Yeah, really sexy, I know. But when you know you have about a 90/10 chance of falling asleep before anything good happens, you might as well be comfortable, right?

I'm remembering far, far, far back into my memory, back to the days when I had to worry about what I slept in...

I wore girly shorts - something like this sans flowers:
http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/onlineProductDisplay.vs?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=CM-236652&page=1&cgname=OSSLPSEPZZZ&rfnbr=5242

Holy long link....

Anyhoo they're cuter than regular shorts but JUST AS COMFY. If you get the girly girly ones, they show your butt, which even if yer a little (or a lot) chubby, can be sexy.

I too struggle with the top, a cami would be my suggestion, there are plenty of cute ones and even almost-sexy comfortable ones.

Whoot Formerly Gracie--genius! I too sleep in old yoga pants and a t-shirt, but it never occurred to me to use that as a motivation for working out.

Now seriously ladies, I have had my hair in a ponytail on top of my head, an oversized t-shirt and old boxers on and my husband only sees boobs. Like x-ray vision. Some pervy Superman.

You are NOT alone. I participated in a PJ blog swap a month ago. I almost choked when I saw the price of PJs. Holy smokes... it had been that long since I purchased a pair. For summer, I like capri pants with a tank (bra support). My days of going to bed without support are OVER (post babies).
