Girls Weekend 2008: A Recap

Alternately titled: Bitches Bash 2008 (name stolen from the random woman who graciously took this picture of us on the beach and said that's the name she and her friends use when they get together.):

So we arrived in Myrtle Beach on Friday evening after a relatively smooth flight - except for some complaining from the veteran travelers because all 6 of us were in the VERY LAST row. Next to the stinky bathroom. In seats that didn't recline. But whatever. WE WERE HUSBAND & CHILD-FREE FOR THE NEXT 72 HOURS!

Friday night was mellow, to say the least. We hit the grocery store and stocked up on the essentials: munchies and alcohol. And got take-out Chinese food, which was questionable (at best). Anyone missing a cat?

And then got in our jammies (much to our husbands' collective fantasies, I'm sure) and watched the Sex and the City movie and drank wine (out of our new monogrammed wine glasses that MB brought WITH her on the plane, sweet girl!) and ate chocolate. Divine! Sadly for the husbands, no pillows or fighting were involved. But we did manage to catch the end of the Sox game, which they won. Apparently you can take the girls outta Boston, but you can't take Boston outta the gals.

Saturday dawned bright and sunny totally rainy. A perfect shopping day. So we hit the outlets. Hard. Doing our best to stimulate the economy, one Coach bag (after another) at a time.

My favorite purchases? This pair of AWESOME shooz by Kenneth Cole:

(3 of us bought them.)

And this cute little Kate Spade wristlet:

(2 of us bought them.)

(We all live far enough away from each other to be able to safely duplicate-and triplicate-and quadruplicate our clothing/shoes/accessories and not worry about bumping into each other randomly. Thankfully. Because there was LOTS of buying in bulk! One of the signs of true friends: Having the same taste in clothing. Apparently.)

So after a full afternoon of traipsing around the outlets, we headed back to the condo for some nourishment and cleansing (NO, husbands, we did NOT all shower together) and then headed out for a night on the town.

The night started out fairly lame mellow with the 6 of us simply sitting in our booth, chatting and munching on chicken wings (ultra classsssssy) but as the buckets o' beer began to flow...and flow...and flow...we found our groove in the bar area where the Sox game was in full swing.

Shots of Slippery Nipples were involved. Followed by another round of Buttery Nipples. (Oh, the Google hits I'm gonna get now!)

Sidenote: There were 6 of us MARRIED women sitting at a round table in the bar. Drinking, laughing, and having a good time. Giving off NO vibes WHATSOEVER that we were available or even wanted to be approached. Yet men continued to come up to us. What goes on in these men's heads? Why do they bother? Someone needs to do a scientific study on this particular phenomenon: Men Who Seriously Think Every Woman Wants Them. Jeez.

The night ended with us closing down the bar, trying to catch the end of the Sox game that had gone into extra innings. Our taxi got us back to the condo just in time. To see the Sox lose. And for Mary and I to have that JUST ONE MORE BEER that definitely becomes a huDge regret in the morning. (I never learn.)

Sunday morn dawned bright and sunny partly cloudy. Safe to say, we were all fighing off bangin' headaches. So we trudged to breakfast - because nothing cures a hangover better than some grease, right? Notsomuch. Safe to say, I was struggling.

After that, 3 of the girls headed back to the outlets, for returns/exchanges/MORE shopping. The other 3 of us said NONONO (sung in Amy Winehouse's voice - hey, any coincidence that her name is WINEhouse and she's a total boozebag trainwreck?) and hit the hot tub and swimming pool. And then walked on the beach. Heaven!

The remainder of the afternoon, the 6 of us lounged by the pool and hot tub with snacks. Talking, reading and soaking up the rays. Wishing we had JUST ONE MORE DAY and didn't have to leave the next morning.

That evening, we went out for a nice dinner and fun drinks:

Warning: Drinking pina coladas may cause noxious gas to emit from one's person in the middle of the shoe aisle. Just sayin'. And no, it wasn't me (this time).

After one last hurrah of (yet even more) shopping, we headed back to the condo to pack and to watch the ABC lineup of Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters. I don't watch either of those shows, so I? Packed, read my book, and was the first one in bed at 10:30.

Monday morning was departure day. But first, 3 of the gals were introduced to the breakfast heaven that is Cracker Barrel. How could they not have known?? Mmmm...hashbrown casserole.

In summary, Bitches Bash 2008?

Was spectacular. Can't wait to do it again in '09!
