Fall Fashion?

Ok, I'm certainly not a fashion maven by any means, so riddle me this:

Coats. Coats are designed to keep one warm, right? That's a coat's primary purpose. That's why you wear a coat. As an extra layer.

I'm just not getting the whole 3/4 length sleeves on the jackets this season. It's like you're kinda getting ripped off, you know? Paying for a coat, but getting gypped on the sleeves.

I won't buy one. Even if it is in style. Because here in Massachusetts? It gets COLD starting in October. I'm thinking that my wrists would get mighty chilly.

So do you have one? Am I a loser because my coats are all FULL-SLEEVED?

So if you wear long sleeves, they stick out the bottom of the coat?

Doesn't it look funny, like your coat doesn't really fit? Like it shrunk in the wash?

What gloves would you wear with this? Long bridesmaids gloves?

Ha - I have a three quarter length sleeve jacket and had no idea I was making a fashion statement - I just thought it was cute :)

Living in Florida - I cannot WAIT until it's cool enough to actually wear it!

Clearly, fashion designers don't live in Boston or Buffalo. I love that last one - here's a coat to your knees but without full sleeves. If frostbitten bands at the wrist aren't coming into fashion, you can bet gloves to the elbow are not far behind these dumb coats. Check LLBean's for some nice poly-filled Goretex ones or Coach for cashmere lined leather...

Huh, I was thinking that they (being the fashion people) are trying to sell them as 'indoor' wear. I've seen people wearing jackets in the office this summer instead of a sweater. Last year it was all about the blazer and now this is the next, new thing.

Won't catch me buying one though. I'll stick with my snuggle sweaters for inside and my ski jacket for outside.

I don't like wearing coats anyway, so when I absolutely have to, you can bet that they're going to cover my entire arm, and maybe some of my hands as well!

So impractical but they really are cute.

First I will completely disqualify myself by saying in Florida we never even wear long pants much less coats.. but.. it seems like they are going for a Jackie Kennedy thing.

You'd need longer soft leather gloves and a pill box hat to pull of that last coat.

Got to admit I would never buy a jacket like that either. And the bridesmaid glove comment...hilarious!

Doesn't make sense to me. But then, the fashion world rarely does.

My last winter in Boston (1992, with the 19 blizzards) I wore a huge down coat with about 4 layers of clothes underneath. I then slipped on the front walk of the apartment building, fell onto my back, and couldn't get up because I was wearing too many layers. So I rolled around like a bug for a while until I managed to roll over.

Now I live in California, and don't have to worry about it.

I keep picturing a blouse sleeve hanging out of 3/4 coat sleeve. It looks a lot like Don Johnson/Miami Vice circa 1986 (which, at the time, I thought was bitchin').

I admit I'm a total fashion slut (as you know), but this is one trend I will never latch onto, either. I'd really rather spend the money on a coat that works.

see, i probably need one of these because i have such freakishly short arms it might actually look normal!

I hear ya, fellow MA girl! I need a coat that is functional and warm! Something from Lands End that isn't so much fashionable as frost-bite preventing!

Yeah, I'm just not seeing it catching on here in Iowa either. Obviously the fashion designers have never experienced 18 degrees below zero with a wind chill of 30 below!

Although I HAVE been looking for a reason to pull out those long bridesmaid gloves again...
