Rambling Thoughts of the Preschooler's Mind

This very morning, as I was brushing my teeth, Middle stumbled in from his bed, removed his thumb from his mouth, wiped the sleep from his squinting eyes and blurted,

"Mom, you HAVE to remember to tape Shrek the Halls at Christmas, okay? Oh, and Charlie Brown too."

So I responded, "Uhhh, okay buddy. Sure thing."

But I was thinking, "Wait, we're in April, right?"

Him: "And Elmo's Christmas! And Grinch!"

And then, seeming relieved that he got that VERY IMPORTANT information relayed, he shuffled off, barefooted, blanket in hand, thumb in mouth, hair askew....

To wander downstairs to tell his father the exact same thing. To cover all his bases, apparently.

Leaving me scratching my head and pondering, "What the HELL goes on in that almost 4-year old brain of his? Hmmm...I wonder if my DVR has the capability to tape shows 8 MONTHS in advance?!"

You know, just so you don't forget.

I wish I could crawl right through their synapses, sometimes.

You know you're gonna forget now, right? Even though you got the 8-month advance notice?

Could you remind everyone again in eight months, since you've already been reminded? Because last year I forgot to tape Shrek the Halls, and I'm still bummed about it.

Funny! I so wish I could get a glimpse into their minds thought process. To him it made perfect sense to remind you already.
