The Nike Running Shirt Story

Happy Anniversary baby...got you on my mi-i-ind. (I heart Little River Band, by the way. "Cool Change" is one of my top 5 favorites of all time. Now on with the story.)

So, it all started with a Nike Running shirt.

When Hubby and I were in the very beginning of the getting-to-know-you stage (we weren't officially "dating" but there was, I must say, a "spark"), we met for drinks one night at the little corner pub by my place.

Hubby had on a blue Nike Running tee shirt. So, curious, I asked him, "Do you run?"

And he responded (like the smartass I quickly soon learned he was), "No, I just like the shirt."

Well, that Nike Running shirt stuck around.

It happened to be one of the ONLY comfortable articles of clothing I could wear after about month 7 of all 3 of my pregnancies.

See?
Today is our 9 year wedding anniversary. It just makes me chuckle to think back all those years ago, to the little Selwyn Pub in Charlotte, NC, sitting with my friend Christy, feeling those little butterflies of anxiousness and excitement when Hubby walked in wearing his Nike Running shirt.

Who knew where that shirt would take you us?

I love you dear.

Chances are you'll find me
Somewhere on your road tonight
Seems I always end up driving by
Ever since I've known you
It seems you're on my way

All the rules of logic don't apply
I long to see you in the night
Be with you 'til morning light

I remember clearly how you looked
The night we met
I recall your laughter and your smile
I remember how you made me
Feel so at ease
I remember all your grace and your style

And now you're all I long to see
You've come to mean so much to me

Chances are I'll see you
In my dreams tonight
You'll be smiling like the night we met
Chances are I'll hold you and I'll offer
All I have

You're the only one I can't forget
Baby you're the best I've ever met

And I'll be dreaming of the future
And hoping you'll be by my side
And in the morning I'll be longing for the night
For the night

Chances are I'll see you
Somewhere in my dreams tonight
You'll be smiling like the night we met
Chances are I'll hold you and I'll offer
All I have

You're the only one I can't forget
Baby you're the best I've ever met

(Our wedding song. Bob Seger & Martina McBride. From the Hope Floats soundtrack.)

Awwww, happy anniversary! We're sneaking slowly (hah!) up on eight years this fall. There's something so much more grown-up about "eight" or "nine" than "one" or "three."

That's sweet!

And it's a much better story than mine.

When I started dating my husband he had a pair of grey sweatpants. Disgusting grey sweatpants. He had had them since junior high I'm sure.

They were comfortable.

Two months after we married I gave them to Goodwill.

He has forgiven me much in the marriage, but I think he still feels that sting!

And that damn song always makes me cry.

But that's not important. It's your anniversary! Congratulations to the happy couple!

Happy Anniversary!! Wow...I can't believe it has been 9 years. Your wedding was wonderful. I had a blast at it..not to mention too much to drink! In fact, this weekend I drove by the church on my way to pick up a friend off Selwyn and thought I knew where I was 9 years ago! Salute!!
