May She Rest In Peace

Updated on 3/18/08: When Hubby's paternal grandfather (Grandma Theresa's last living son) died in 2004, I was about 3 months pregnant with Middle and ultra-hormonal. I held it together pretty well at the funeral though; that is, until I caught a glimpse of Grandma Theresa. Weeping silently and stoically, ever dignified at almost 102 years of age. Mourning the loss of her last living child. It was then that I completely blubbered.

Thankfully, Hubby got to visit with her last night at the hospital. She was lucid and knew who he was, so he feels comforted.

If we had had a girl born in the Trenches, her name was to be Lydia Theresa.

Grandma Theresa died today, Tuesday, March 18th around 5:30 pm EST.

Posted on 3/17/08: This Saint Paddy's Day 2008, we celebrate a very special birthday. You see, the boyz' great-great grandmother on Hubby's side turns 106 today. Born on St. Patrick's Day, 1902.

The amazing Grandma Theresa has outlived all her children (4) and all of her spouses (3!)

But presently, Grandma Theresa is in the hospital. She's been having trouble breathing due to pneumonia.

So please think of this matriarch today.

EDITED TO ADD: We just found out that they've decided to give her a morphine drip. Sadly, there's not much else they can do for her, except to keep her as comfortable as possible so that she may go in peace. Hubby will go to the hospital tonight to see her.

(Baby is her youngest great-great grandchild. This picture was taken in 2006 when she turned a spry 104.)

OMG... she looks so much like my grandma (who passed about 3 years ago). I was taken aback at first when I saw the photo. She looks great for her age! I'll keep her in my thoughts and wish much peace your family's way.
