Blogroll Blabber

Help! Dwain the tub, I'm dwowning! My "You Blogroll Me and I'll Blogroll You" blogroll seemed like a good idea at the time...

But now? I'm buried. Not only do I try to read all the blogs on my blogroll, I also have other blogs bookmarked on both my home computer and work computer that I MUST read as well. Which cuts down on my work, mothering wine-drinking (notice THAT'S not crossed out) & down time.

And I received this review at Review My Blog while I was on vacation. [Bitches! I soooo deserved wanted a perfect 10!] It just confirmed my notion that things need to change here In the Trenches. I need a more manageable way of reading/commenting/spreading the linky-love.

I'm not a big fan of the Google feed readers. (Is that what they're even called? I confess, I'm compuwtr illitirit.) I enjoy perusing blogs at their original sites, not by the links to a particular post on that blog. (Does that even make sense?) AND I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by removing them from my (immensely-growing) blogroll. Because I'm sensitive like that, ya know.

Hello? Hellllllllooooo? WAKE UP!

Any ideas for me?

Computer illiterate? I don't know how you figured out that I had been reading your blog! I was playing with my profile (which I have not gotten around to finishing) when I discovered that you can click on the name of say, a favorite movie and it will show you other people who also like that movie...I discovered Tulip Mom who likes When Harry Met Sally...you are on her blog role, your blog name sounded interesting...I read a couple of your entries and laughed out loud...so, I'm no help whatsoever with your too many blogs to read problem...just wanted to say thanks for the smiles today. Oh yeah, I'm sensitive too, but when I added you to my blogrole it was really just b/c I enjoyed yours so much. No expectation of being added to yours.

Well, I know I am rarely "here", but I read everything you post. When I couldn't keep up with my blogroll anymore, I went to a feeder (I use bloglines). It has its pros and cons. For one, people never realize I'm reading their site because it just shows up on the feeder unless I click the link to the site (could be good, could be bad). But, at the same time, I know a lot of my readers do the same.

It all came down to a time thing for me. I don't have time to click through every blog...not with two kids and two jobs (just a veritable Noah here). So, a feed reader it is.

Every now and then, I put out a shout to folks to visit my blog and ask them to make sure I've linked them on my blogroll, just to keep it current. But, that's about it.

Yeah, it is a compromise, but it was either that or missing a meal, and that is NOT going to happen with me! ;-)

I have just recently started using google reader, and I love it. BUT, I also like reading it at the original page. So this is what I do. When there is a new post, I click on it, and it opens it in the reader. Then I click on the blog title on the top of the google reader page, and it opens the the actual blog page for me. I read and comment, close the page, mark it as read on the reader, and move on to the next one. This way I am not opening a bunch of blogs with no new posts, but I still get to read them on the original sites. Best of both worlds.

I also use Google Reader but only so that I don't have to open every single blog on my blogroll several times a day. When I find a new post, I visit the actual blog. It really does save a lot of time.

I made a new blog just for my blogroll. I put up a link on my sidebar so that if someone wants to see it, they can go there. And! I can have as many people as I'd like without cluttering my sidebar. (Not that my sidebar isn't cluttered, because it totally is.)

I made my new blog by copying and pasting the code to my template into another blog. That way it looks just like my original page.

Can I just say that I feel your pain? I have nothing to offer in terms of solutions; I know that my goal is to keep the number of new posts in my Google Reader under '100'. Yikes.

My blogroll is getting too long, too. For a while I was keeping it at a certain number, but...there isn't anyone I can delete now.

Maybe I'll do what Playgroupie did.

I hope my adding YOU to my blogroll isn't what set you over the edge.

I know I go against protocol, but I just highlight a few of the ones who I adore, a couple of real friends, and a couple of new blogger friends. I don't think I have more than seven or eight. I realize that goes against the tit-for-tat of many blogrolls, but it feels right for me.

BTW, loved the review. They recognized that you're great.

I think your blog is pretty enjoyable too. How about I give that extra point? I'm generous like that.

I have a link to my Bloglines blogroll on my site. I think I need to move it up some, because it's down at the bottom of the page.

I use Bloglines because I read a lot of blogs (over 300 - 200 of those are diabetes-related, though). I try to open each blog instead of reading it thru bloglines, although when posts pile up unread, as they are now, I will confess to skimming.

I, too, had to go to Google Reader...and I must admit that I haven't updated my blogroll in way too long...I read WAY more blogs than are listed in my blogroll.

What I do is use the Google Reader to let me know where there are new posts. If it's a MUST READ blog (like yours, of course!...sorry I haven't been around lately!), I just go straight to the actual blog. If it's a blog that I read on and off when time permits, I read it in Google Reader, and only go the blog if I am leaving a comment.

Not sure if this helps...hope you figure something out!

You're hilarious! I know what you mean. I can't seem to figure google reader out; would I have to RE-ENTER all the blog addresses??? If so, I'll never do it.

I actually DO read each and every one of the blogs listed on mine- maybe not EVERY day but every 2 or 3 days. And, if I find that I don't read some for a while, and I haven't heard from them, I take them off. It is a living, breathing list! But, I prefer blogs that DO have a list of blogs they read- that's how I've found the best ones!

I try to keep the blog itself 'tidy' (unlike my house!) by not adding stuff to either side junking it up. Can't wait to see what you decide!
