Operation: Decontamination

There's a fungus among us, indeed! Ever since we hosted Middle's 3rd birthday party, we seem to have shared the stomach bug with every guest who has stepped across the threshold of the Trenches. Seriously. I can right now count an additional 10 invitees, at least (and I haven't spoken with everyone yet), who got sick (throwing up or diarrhea or an always interesting combo of both...) after Middle's party on June 9. I obviously wouldn't have held the party if I had even thought that we would still be carrying the germ. It had been almost a full week since Hubby (who was the last in our family to catch it) had been ill and after cleaning and sanitizing, I figured we'd be in the clear. Yeah, apparently not so much.

Needless to say, when we got back from Myrtle Beach, and I heard all about the party's "aftermath", I made a few phone calls to make sure I still had friends!

And then this past weekend, my Younger Brother and Nephew came for another visit and to join us on a trip to Edaville Railroad for a "Day Out With Thomas the Train" on Saturday. Sure as shit (no pun intended), Nephew started throwing up yesterday morning, right before my Bro had to drive him back to NY on a 6 hour car ride. Umm...sorry 'bout that Bro.

So what is up with my sick house??? After shedding a few a lot of tears of guilt and frustration that we keep getting others sick, yesterday I went on a rampage. A cleaning/disinfecting/bleaching spree, if you will. Father's Day was barely acknowledged. Sorry about that Hubby. (Although I think he was too busy mowing the lawn/washing the car/keeping an eye on the boyz to think much about it either.)

Let's see, I: disinfected all the Thomas trains and cleaned the train table, wiped down the light switches, telephones and remote controls with Lysol with bleach, stripped all the beds, washed all the bathroom rugs and towels and washcloths, washed all the pillow cushions and pillows in the living room and sunroom, vacuumed, dusted, and cleaned 2-1/2 bathrooms (why oh why can't they pee in the toilet??? It's not like it's a frickin bullseye they're aiming for, it's a big, round toilet bowl!), cleaned the kitchen floor, wiped down every handle in the entire house, cleaned and disinfected the dining room and sunroom tables and chairs...Sorry, boring, I know. But that was my day.

I have yet to tackle the boyz' playroom. Which is probably definitely the room that needs disinfecting the most. It just seems wayyyyyyy overwhelming to have to clean and wipe down all the crap toys that are in there. It WILL BE DONE this week though!

And, I don't care if the temperature tops 100 degrees, all the windows here are open! No more central air conditioning until I can be sure that no one else who enters the Trenches catches the bug. So who wants to be my guinea pig and come for a visit??? Don't all answer at once now...

I'm so sorry that happened but people have to understand that these things just - happen. You didn't know. that's all. I hope you killed the bug! Goodluck!

Poor thing! That is one of the worst feelings but it has happened and will continue to happen to all of us.

Oh no! Good luck. And take care.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. Chances are it was another guest who was actually carrying the bug w/o symptoms (when it is the most contagious). I'm no doctor but I've always heard a bug is most contagious when you are infected with little or no symptoms. Have fun opening up the windows! I wish I could, 110 doesn't cut it for me though!

Yeah, families pass all kinds of things to one another. You're not the first, and certainly not the last!!

Wow! It's almost like that scene in Stand by Me. Except that the there's more time in between people throwing up and it's not all at the same place.
