Ode to Middle

3 years ago today, I had a repeat c-section. It was nice knowing what to expect in that regard, but nothing could prepare me for the maelstrom that is you:

You have no idea that today is really your birthday. You think you turned 3 on Saturday, the day of your party.

You are obsessed with Thomas the Train.

We are going to Edaville on Saturday to ride on Thomas the Train and you insist you won't cry this year "because I three now" but that Baby "will prolly cry cuz he littler than me."

You have the terrible habit of whining. A lot.

Your screechy cry practically makes Mommy's ears bleed.

You have a flair for the dramatic. I call you my "drama queen." Kinda like Mommy.

Your Baby brother dominates you when you let him.

When you're in the mood to be rough, you're really physical with both your brothers.

Your thumb and your green blankie are your favorites.

You love reading books. Especially Olivia and The Signmaker's Assistant.

You love music and singing. Especially the Cars soundtrack.

You can spell your name.

Your favorite color is "lellow".

Mosquitoes love your skin. You don't just get mosquitoe bites--you get welts.

You just learned how to pedal and are very proud of that fact.

You are a perfect mix of Mommy and Daddy with your olive skin and big brown eyes.

When you were born, you had a tuft of hair above your butt crack. It's still there.

You think ketchup is a food.

You are a horribly light sleeper and still fuss in the middle of the night. Often.

You are very excited to start preschool in the fall.

You are my second-born wild child; you've reminded me in so many ways that even though you all came from the same womb, to never compare my children to each other because you're each unique; you are my now 3 year old "big boy"; you are my Middle and there's no one quite like you buddy.

That was so sweet. It can be tough being the middle sometimes. I love "you think ketchup is food", too cute!

I'm smiling at the "tuft of hair above the butt crack." Sweet Boy was born with a heart-shaped hemangioma on his tush. Happy Birthday to Middle!

Happy Birthday, Middle! Sweet post, interesting about the butt crack hair! Shel and Peanut were born with parts of their cracks fused together...they opened after a few days.

Alexander has a swirl dark of hair on his back, it's so endearing to me.

I'm sure when he's 16, his girlfriend will love the bit about the tuft of hair on his butt.
