My New Year's Resolution

Here it is...I've been hesitant to write it down, because you know how when you write something down, that tends to make it more real? I have wanted to do this since I first heard about it from a friend last year. I made the vow to myself then, that this year, 2007, I would truly do it:

Yep, I'm going to train for, and participate in, the Danskin Triathlon For Women. I've always been somewhat naturally athletic, so at least I have that much going for me. I've been taking spinning classes at Gold's Gym for almost a year now (since last February, not that I have anything to show for it, except maybe slightly more muscular legs, although that's debatable, what with the fat on top of the (new) muscle). My only concern is the swimming part. You see, I've always had BAD eyesight. We're talking BIFOCALS when I was in 3rd grade. So swimming was never my cup of tea. I could never SEE. And then when I got rid of the Coke-bottle glasses in 8th grade (finally!) and had contacts, I was always worried about my contacts getting wet. So water sports were never my thing. Running, I can do. Biking, I can do. Swimming? Yeah, I may drown.

And the other issue(s) is (are): I don't have a bike. Or a helmet. Or any "triathlon appropriate-apparel" (I don't make a habit of wearing anything remotely spandex-like). Minor details, folks. I'M DOING IT!

Just wanted to say that I recently discovered your blog via a link from Seersucker Stories and have really enjoyed reading about your life with 3 boys. We're pretty busy with "just" one (age 6)as he has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (on the autistic spectrum). I have no idea how you manage with 3 boys!! I can't even imagine. Good for you for attempting a triathlon. That's awesome. I just started my own blog this weekend ... feel free to drop by when you have a free minute (hah hah). I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics, etc. but I am finding it to be incredibly therapeutic and fun. Good luck with training for the triathlon.
